Since cinemas reopened after being closed at the start of COVID-19 in 2020, it is relatively rare for such an event to occur at the box office. Blockbuster films have taken much longer to produce and have therefore been released less regularly in recent years. This allowed more films to debut in the top spot than they otherwise might have.

However, this summer, neck and neck races at the top of the leaderboards are likely to be much more numerous. The much busier summer schedule for 2023 includes several weekends in which important releases will coincide, including the famous simultaneous premiere of Barbie And by Oppenheimer in July. Next weekend, we will witness a similar face-to-face, since elemental of Pixar And The Flash of DC will come out at the same time.
