Get your popcorn ready! This Friday is bringing a true cinematic circus to theaters. We’re not talking about just one or two new movies. Brace yourselves, because over ten films are hitting the big screen on the very same day.
Among the crowd, a Hollywood titan and two promising Hindi films are vying for attention. The superhero flick “Superman” is flying in from the West. On the home front, we have “Maalik,” starring the ever-popular Rajkummar Rao. Then there’s “Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan,” with Vikrant Massey leading the charge. Around seven or eight South Indian films are also joining this movie marathon. To get a real feel for who might win the box office race, we spoke with two industry insiders, Raj Bansal and Sumit Kadel. They’ve got the lowdown on what to expect.
The Big Box Office Battle
Raj Bansal notes that most of these new films are either small or mid-budget. So, there isn’t much buzz or excitement swirling around them. But he sees some potential. “Maalik” is the one to watch among the Hindi releases, he says. People generally like Rajkummar Rao. His recent films have done well, and many in the industry see him as a good luck charm. If “Maalik” has a strong story, it could slowly build up its audience.
As for “Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan,” it’s a smaller film and hasn’t gotten as much talk. But Bansal reminds us that sometimes, these quiet releases surprise everyone. If its story clicks with viewers, it could find its own success.
Opening Day Predictions
Raj Bansal predicts “Maalik” could pull in around ₹3.5 to ₹4 crore on its first day. “Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan,” being the smaller film, might open somewhere between ₹1 and ₹1.25 crore. He stressed that first-day numbers are just the beginning. The real test is the story. If the audience loves it, the weekend (Saturday and Sunday) can see big growth.
Sumit Kadel weighs in on the Hollywood heavy-hitter. “Superman” is seeing very strong advance bookings, he shares. His team expects the superhero movie to rake in ₹8 to ₹10 crore on its opening day. Kadel points out that big movie franchises like “Superman” already have loyal fans. These films rely more on their well-known name than heavy marketing, much like “Jurassic World” or “Fast & Furious” do.

The Promotion Game and Screen Time
Comparing “Maalik” to Rajkummar Rao’s previous films, Sumit Kadel notes that its advance bookings are a bit lower. Still, an opening of ₹3 to ₹4 crore is certainly achievable. He calls this a “decent start” considering Rajkummar Rao’s pulling power.
“Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan” faces a tougher road, Kadel believes. It will get fewer movie screens because bigger films like “Superman” and “Maalik” will take up most of them. This means its opening could be limited to ₹50 lakh to ₹1 crore.
Raj Bansal observes that both Hindi films worked hard on promotions. However, the “Maalik” team seemed more active. They were visible everywhere, from social media to on-the-ground events.

The Final Verdict: Story Wins
So, who will truly shine this weekend? Industry watchers agree that the real winner will be decided by the film’s content. A strong story can overcome a slow start. If a movie is well-made and connects with viewers, it will eventually draw crowds.
Raj Bansal puts it simply: “Word-of-mouth is the biggest power these days.” He adds that if a film is made from the heart and resonates with the audience, theaters will slowly but surely fill up.
