FC Volendam and Excelsior, the numbers one and two in the Kitchen Champion Division, both drew 0-0. Young PSV won 4-1 at VVV-Venlo thanks to Johan Bakayoko.
The most talked about game in the first division today was not played. Helmond Sport saw one player after another drop out due to corona and injuries. The club therefore refused to play the game with FC Emmen. The KNVB did not accept that decision and will punish the Brabant club.
Leader Volendam has difficulty with NAC
At Volendam, the eyes were on the returned Francesco Antonucci. The creative midfielder left the fishing village last summer and moved to Feyenoord, but did not break through there.
He returned to Volendam, to trainer Wim Jonk, with whom he already worked together in the youth of Ajax. He started back in the starting lineup for the first time against NAC.
But Antonucci was also unable to color the first half in the Rat Verlegh Stadium. NAC – which was bought today by building contractor Karel Vrolijk – also didn’t do much. Midfielder Thom Haye, who would be coveted by sc Heerenveen, provided the most entertainment with a few very nice passes.
The second half did not bring much more spectacle. NAC claimed the most victory, but the chances were not capitalized. Volendam offered pursuers such as Excelsior and FC Emmen the chance to run into the draw after the draw.
Excelsior does not come any closer
Excelsior did not take advantage of that opportunity. The Rotterdammers never really managed to make a fist against De Graafschap. The gap with Volendam thus remains six points.
Excelsior has played one game less than the leader. Last Sunday, number two Excelsior managed to get his match against ADO Den Haag – unlike Helmond Sport – postponed.
Bakayoko excels again
The man of Friday evening was Jong PSV player Johan Bakayoko. The Belgian attacker single-handedly killed VVV with four goals.
It is not the first time that Bakayoko has asserted himself. The fast winger also scored a goal and two assists last weekend.
