Boston slams on Doncic

During these last games of the Mavericks, the Christmas madness of Doncic, two things have been commenting that were true and that have had a reflection in the defeat this Thursday against the Celtics. On the one hand, that a benign calendar was favoring him for the exhibitions he was giving. On the other, that any action after that ends up becoming common when it is not. He had to reach the NBA leader, with a 27-21 record in the Eastern Conference, to put the Texans in their place, who were already going for seven consecutive victories.

Therefore, that streak ends. And now the January slope begins, which for them will not be an expression without more. Dallas fell clearly at the American Airlines Center and made the casualties it accumulated for the duel preponderant, not only those of Green or Kleber but also that of Dorian Finney-Smith, a glue player who brings important issues in games like this. The big stars have to be defended and in the team now led by Joe Mazzulla two stand out, not one: Tatum (29) and Brown (19). If you add 15 more points, respectively, from two other outsiders who handle themselves phenomenally stopping opposing stars, such as Brogdon and Smart, players of depth and quality are needed in both areas to get in front. And the Mavs didn’t have them for this duel. Doncic has achieved 41’7 points, 11 rebounds and 9’9 assists, one tenth of the average triple-double, during the period of seven wins that ended today, and by opposition contributing only 23 goals sounds little.

Boston had things clearer than the rival from the first moment, weaving a network from which Dallas he couldn’t escape. Doncic did have a gray game, not only because of the figures given above: he missed sixteen shots, including the six triples he attempted, and hit only seven. The locals were in tow throughout the match, without finding a way to impose their rhythm or stop the vertigo with which the others develop their game, and fell by a clear 95-124. The best team in the NBA maintains that title and also the sensations, winning in a difficult place.

The greens pulled the bolt from the start. Luka’s decisions weren’t entirely correct, he only solved a couple of plays with brilliance in the first period, and his teammates didn’t make a good crowd either. The result was a progressive takeoff of the Celtics on the scoreboard. Above ten ahead when Doncic went to rest on the bench, it was almost worse. In the attack of Kidd’s men there was between zero and an idea without the Slovenian and the defense almost punished even more. Brogdon came out to direct the flow of the ball and was another boost for his team. Before the break, triple after triple, finding the corners, making a game of getting up to applaud without being necessary filigree and some voices higher than others, the distance kissed the twenties. A beautiful break from Tatum to Bullock in the third quarter confirmed it. Doncic also had foul problems, not just thinking about the pressure that Smart imposed on his figure, and time was running out to do something different. Which did not happen. The same springs were activated: good shots from Brogdon, passes with meaning only on the Celtics side, Tatum’s coup de grace, etc. The local coach gave it up in the last period, where the only good news was the tone maintained by the rookie Hardy (15) and the center Powell (10) to make up the result.
