The city of Porto just welcomed a familiar kind of energy to its famed football club. Borja Sainz, a 24-year-old Spanish winger, is the latest hopeful to join FC Porto’s ranks. He penned a five-year deal, lasting until 2030, bringing fresh attacking options to the squad for the 2025/26 season.
This signing marks a new chapter for the Dragons. Sainz is the fourth acquisition secured by the club’s administration, now led by André Villas-Boas. He follows the arrivals of Gabri Veiga, João Costa, and Dominik Prpic. Sainz spoke with a clear sense of pride and eagerness when he first stepped into his new colours.
His fellow countryman, Samu Aghehowa, played a quiet but important role in his decision. “I spoke with Samu from the first day FC Porto contacted me,” Sainz revealed. “He told me wonderful things about the club. He is very happy here.” Sainz made sure to thank Samu, noting how much help he offered since his arrival.
Sainz sees himself as a player who attacks with purpose. “I am ambitious,” he stated. “I can help the team in whatever way is needed.” He thrives in one-on-one situations, always looking to challenge defenders. Goals and assists are his game, and the left flank is his comfort zone.
Stepping into the Estádio do Dragão left a lasting impression on the young Spaniard. “It’s an incredible stadium,” he exclaimed. “One of the best in the world.” He shared his strong desire to play on its grass as soon as possible. Before signing off, Sainz looked straight to the loyal blue-and-white faithful. He promised a good season ahead. He urged them to keep their passion burning bright. They live and breathe this club, he noted, and he hopes for a great year together.
