Boricua Jesús Montano dominates Blue Marlin fishing tournament

The veteran Puerto Rican fisherman Jesús Montano released five blue marlin during the first day of the XXX International Blue Marlin Fishing Tournament that began this Friday with around sixty seamen seeking to win the Banreservas Insurance Cup. The event is organized by the Club Náutico de Santo Domingo.

Montano, boarding the motorboat Ángela, adds a thousand points in total, while Diego Viyella, in Grace, occupies second place with 800. Then followed by Eduardo Read (Substitute) with 600; Tito Muntaner (Ángela), Elías Ignacio Cruz (Malcriá) and Humberto Quintana in Sisu have 400 points. At the end of the second and last day this Saturday, the fisherman with the highest score will be the winner of the contest.

Equipment and boats

The members of the combined “PR’s Boys”, Luis Infanzón, Jesús Montano and Humberto Quintana, have 1,400 points to lead the tournament. Then follow “Arrecho” with 800 points and made up of fishermen Elías Ignacio Cruz, Charles Donato and Rafael Paulino. The “Pura Vida” team is in third place with 600 points. It is made up of Luis Córdova, Caisen Gavidia and Laura Gavidia.

Angela dominates by boats with 1,600 points, Grace occupying second place with a thousand points and the third box is for Sisu with the same amount. Substitute has 800 points and Malcriá has six hundred.

Ceremony 

Thursday night served to receive fishermen and guests in an act that had the religious blessing by Father Ángel de la Rosa, as well as the words of Commodore Héctor Duval and director Wally Heinsen. Horacio Read also spoke, who along with Heinsen, José Luis Núñez and Danny Medina, form the fishing committee.
