Earlier in March, a powerful suicide bombing exploded at a Shia mosque during Friday prayers in the northwestern city of Peshawar in Pakistan. 57 people died and about 200 people were injured. It was one of the deadliest attacks in the restive province bordering Afghanistan. A rescue official said the blast took place at the Jamia Masjid located in the Qissa Khwani Bazar area when people were offering Friday prayers.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the blast in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which borders Afghanistan. But Islamic State and radical terrorist groups have claimed responsibility for deadly attacks on the Shia community in the past. Lady Reading Hospital (LHR) media manager Asim Khan had confirmed that at least 57 people were killed and 194 were injured in the blast.
