Bolsonaro affirms support for agricultural producers in Brazil, guarantees world food security

Bolsonaro afirma respaldo a productores agropecuarios de Brasil, garantiza seguridad alimentaria del mundo

The president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, stated that his government’s support for the benefit of pork and poultry producers in that country contributes to the supply and availability of food for the world.

He affirmed that despite the crisis in the global environment, mainly as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the war between Russia and Ukraine, the Brazilian government has faced these situations, so today they can say that “already We are not the Brazil of the future, we are the one of the present, the whole world is interested in us”.

During his speech at the opening ceremony of the 2022 International Poultry and Pork Exhibition (SIAVS, Portuguese), organized by the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA), Bolsonaro stressed that Brazil’s handling of food production has achieved the recognition of world organizations linked to the agribusiness of poultry and pork animal protein.

“A few weeks ago the president of the World Trade Organization was with me and a few days later he declared that without Brazil the world would go hungry, look at our importance, that is why we are going to collaborate with the producers without getting in the way, letting them work. That is our obligation,” he said.

defend free trade

For the president of the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA), Ricardo Santin, information on exports should be part of the price formation policy and stocks strategic, in order to reduce bureaucracy, better distribute the tax burden that affects production chains and achieve affordable costs that guarantee free trade in global food production.

He affirmed that despite the fact that Brazil is “privileged” in its health status, having productions free of African swine fever and avian influenza, the crisis in Eastern Europe has become an important complicating factor for the sector.

In addition, he considered it a mistake that some nations closed their doors, fearful of the effects of inflation on the international supply of inputs.

“Isolationism is not and will never be the way out of the crisis, there can be no borders for food, the lack of information is fuel for speculation,” Santin emphasized.

They discuss sustainability in production

With the motto “Sustainable production: ways to ensure global food”, this edition of the International Poultry and Pork Exhibition brings together more than 100 speakers, whose main point of debate will be to determine how to produce food in a sustainable and responsible way, taking taking into account the environmental and social impact.

The event, the main one in the chain of production and export of poultry, pigs and eggs in Brazil, is attended by the main equipment companies in the sector, genetic houses, laboratories and service providers, as well as agribusiness companies of poultry, pigs , eggs, fish, beef and dairy cattle.
