Bolsonaristas arrested for attempted coup rise to 300

At least 300 supporters of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro were arrested this Sunday for invading and destroying the headquarters of Congress, the Presidency and the Supreme Court to try to overthrow President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, official sources reported.

"300 detainees. Investigations continue until the last member is identified."informed the Civil Police of Brasilia, which in the previous balance had reported 170 arrests in flagrante.

The institution pointed out that the detainees "are being identified" and their statement is being taken within the process that "investigate all criminal acts that occurred" this Sunday afternoon in the Brazilian capital.

Earlier, the Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, warned in a press conference that the number of detainees for the attempted coup against Lula could increase "in the next few hours".

The minister also reported that they confiscated "40 buses" who arrived in the Brazilian capital in the last few hours with hundreds of radical Bolsonaristas and who identified the "funders" that made these trips possible from different parts of the country.

He also claimed that "there are still people on the internet talking about continuing terrorist acts" and, in this sense, he anticipated that there will be police operations against these individuals.

"This is terrorism! It’s coup!"he exclaimed.

Thousands of Bolsonaristas violently entered the offices of Parliament, the Presidency and the Supreme Court, causing serious damage inside them for four hours, until the security forces acted to disperse them.

Dino indicated that governors of other Brazilian states are "giving" police officers for "strengthen the security of the Federal District" in the coming days.

He also said that they will ask the Armed Forces to use troops to support these tasks.

"We will not accept the path of criminality to carry out a political struggle in Brazil"Dino asserted.

The Minister of Justice also criticized the actions of the authorities of the Federal District of Brasilia and warned that possible "omissions" in the attempt to dissuade the crowd of radical Bolsonaristas.

For his part, President Lula decreed federal intervention in the security area of ​​the Brazilian capital.

The measure, which will be in force until January 31, implies that the security forces and bodies of Brasilia will now come under the control of the central government.

The events, unanimously condemned by the international community, occurred exactly one week after Lula assumed the Presidency of Brazil.

The episode experienced today in Brasilia recalled the invasion of the United States Capitol that occurred on January 6, 2021 by supporters of former President Donald Trump, who has a friendly relationship with Bolsonaro.
