In 1960, he won two Grammy Awards for Best Album and Best New Artist for his debut comedy album, "The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart," which became the first comedy album to reach number one on the charts. The album is part of the collection at the Library of Congress.

Television Success

Newhart’s television career took off with his show "The Bob Newhart Show" on NBC, which he starred in from 1972 to 1978. He then reprised his role as a Chicago psychologist in a series of the same name in the 1970s, cementing his status as an American television icon.

Film Career and Later Work

Following his television success, Newhart transitioned to film, appearing in movies such as "In and Out" (1997) and "Elf" (2003). In 2010, he played the role of Professor Proton in the popular physics series "The Big Bang Theory" on CBS, one of the most-watched series in the world. His portrayal of Professor Arthur Jeffries, Professor Proton, earned him an Emmy Award in 2013.
