Bollywood singer and composer Sachin Sanghvi has been arrested on charges of sexual harassment. The arrest follows allegations that Sanghvi promised a woman marriage and an opportunity in a music album.
A police officer confirmed the arrest on Thursday. Sanghvi was detained under relevant sections of the Indian Nyaya Sanhita, India’s new criminal justice code.
The complainant is a 20-year-old woman. She claims to have first made contact with Sanghvi in February 2024 after he messaged her on Instagram.
Sanghvi allegedly promised her an opportunity in his music projects. The woman then claims Sanghvi invited her to his studio.
She further alleged that Sanghvi proposed marriage to her at his studio. He then sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions, according to her complaint.
Police initiated the arrest based on these accusations and their subsequent investigation.
Sachin Sanghvi is a prominent figure in the Indian music industry. He is widely known for his work as part of the musical duo Sachin-Jigar.
