Nimrat Kaur is back in the spotlight, but not for a new movie. The tension between India and Pakistan has brought back memories of her father’s tragic death at the hands of terrorists. In a resurfaced interview with E-Times, Nimrat shared the emotional story of her father’s sacrifice.
Nimrat’s Father, Major Bhupender Singh
Major Bhupender Singh was an engineer in the Indian Army. In 1994, he was abducted and killed by Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists in Verinag, Jammu and Kashmir. Nimrat was on vacation with her family when the incident occurred. She recalls being just a child when her father was taken captive and held for seven days before his body was brought back to Delhi. “Papa was only 44 when they took him,” she said, her voice filled with emotion.
A Tribute to Her Father’s Sacrifice
Major Bhupender Singh was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra for his bravery. Nimrat credits the Army for being like a family to her during that difficult time. “The Army is like a family that stands by you,” she said. The old interview has resurfaced amid the current tensions between India and Pakistan, bringing back memories of her loss.
