Boca Juniors: Varela would leave and there would be two changes against Vélez

Boca’s technical director Hugo Ibarrastopped a team without Alan Varela and supported the attack duo with luca langoniy Michael Merentiel, to play against Vélez next Saturday from 9:30 p.m. for the fifth date of the Professional League. D.In this way, there will be two changes regarding the team that beat Platense last Sunday by 3 to 1: they will enter Facundo Roncaglia by Paraguayan defender Bruno Valdez, who is injured, and Martin Payero by Varela.

The eleven lined up by the coach from Boca in practice at the Ezeiza complex formed with Sergio Romero; Advíncula, Roncaglia, Figal and Sandez; Guillermo Fernández, Ezequiel Fernández, Payero and Oscar Romero; Langoni and Merentiel.

Without a doubt, Varela’s departure is the most significant: the midfielder was replaced in the last two games against Talleres and Platense and everything indicates that Ibarra made the decision to set up the midfield with the two Fernández: “Ezequiel is a very interesting player and Guillermo is a versatile midfielder who can fulfill several functions,” the coach said at last Sunday’s press conference.

Payero’s entry is for the team’s central midfielder to be “Equi” Fernández, who after returning from his loan at Tigre, gradually earned Ibarra’s consideration. He entered the first three games of the League, then he started against Platense and always performed well, although he lost a ball against Talleres and in the same play -in an unfortunate maneuver- he scored a goal against.

As to the permanence of the Langoni-Merentiel offensive duo, of good work against Platense, would be thought for the final of the Argentine Super Cup next Wednesday against Board of Trustees at the Madre de Ciudades stadium in Santiago del Estero in which they will initially be starters. Dario Benedetto and Sebastian Villa, Those who have already served their penalties for expulsions will go to the bench against Vélez, although they could have a few minutes depending on how the game unfolds.

On the other hand, the Boquense leadership is already thinking about the possible date to play against River in the final of the 2020 Champions Trophy, postponed at the time due to the coronavirus pandemic. The idea would be to play it during May, since there are two Wednesdays in which there will be no Copa Libertadores date, at the Mario Alberto Kempes stadium in the city of Córdoba and with the presence of the two fans. As the superclásico will be held at the Monumental on May 7th in the professional league, Wednesday the 17th is considered as an alternative.
