Football is a game of twists and turns, but what’s unfolding at Boavista is truly unique. After a tough season saw them drop out of the top division, this historic club now faces a strange new reality. Next season, the regional football association, AF Porto, might host not one, but two Boavista senior teams.
The professional part of the club, known as the SAD, recently tumbled out of the top league. They tried to find a place in Portugal’s second professional division, but it didn’t work out. They also couldn’t join any national cup competitions. The SAD team didn’t appeal these decisions. So, their path led them to the AF Porto league. This is the top amateur division in the region. Their registration is already done, Record confirmed this with AF Porto officials.
But that’s only half the story. Club president Garrido Pereira recently spoke to members, laying out a bold vision. He wants to create an entirely new senior team. This team would play under the direct control of the club itself. And this would happen no matter what became of the professional SAD. This "club team" isn’t registered yet. However, AF Porto holds a key document. It’s a declaration from the SAD itself, a vital piece of paperwork. This allows the club to join the amateur ranks. If this team gets off the ground, it will begin at the very bottom. That’s the fourth tier of the district league, known as the AF Porto First Division.
