Blood donations on the decline due to a lack of staff

The French Blood Establishment (EFS), which organizes blood drives throughout France, is facing a serious shortage of staff.

Forgotten by the Ségur de la santé, the caregivers of the French Blood Establishment are turning more and more to the hospital where their salary is more valued. “A nurse at the hospital earns around 1,800 euros net per month, while at the EFS it is 1,600 euros”, specifies Corinne Valy, CGC regional delegate.

A lack of attractiveness which generates a staff shortage. From doctor to computer scientist, 300 positions are currently to be filled at the EFS. The lack of staff leads to the cancellation of several hundred blood drives every year and a shortage of blood bags.

At the call of the intersyndicale of the EFS, the staff will be on strike next week, an invisible movement since the employees will be assigned.
