Blinken and Kuleba discuss arms delivery to Ukraine

Brussels, (BLAZETRENDS).- The Secretary of State of the United States, Antony Blinken, and the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Dmitro Kuleba, discussed today during a bilateral meeting at the NATO headquarters the delivery of weapons to Ukraine to defend itself against the Russian invasion.

The meeting was held before the start of a two-day meeting of the Alliance’s foreign ministers, whose first day is dedicated to a NATO-Ukraine Commission, the main platform for dialogue between the two parties.

Blinken reaffirmed to Kuleba the United States’ support for NATO cooperation with Ukraine and the long-term commitment to developing that country’s defense and deterrence capabilities, according to a note transmitted by the US State Department.

Both also spoke of America’s continued bilateral support for Ukraine’s battlefield needs, with Blinken stressing the importance of Ukraine’s future as a “strong, independent and democratic country.”

Before beginning the meeting, the Secretary of State also highlighted the “support and solidarity” shown by Ukraine’s allies, so that it has the means “to defend itself, defend its people, defend its future.”

First meeting of the two at NATO headquarters

Kuleba, for his part, stressed that it is the first time that the two have met in person at the headquarters of the Atlantic Alliance, despite the fact that the Ukrainian minister has participated by videoconference in previous NATO meetings.

“It gives us an excellent opportunity to discuss how to make our NATO meetings happen more often,” he said.

The Ukrainian minister indicated that they would discuss issues related to ammunition and weapons deliveries, and in that context he showed Blinken “appreciation” for “all that the United States has done specifically in recent months to help our Army prepare.” .

“The Administration (of US President Joe) Biden has fulfilled its commitment to provide Ukraine with much, what we need, and set an example for other allies,” he stressed.

Kuleba made it clear that “everything we do is aimed at victory: the victory of democracy over authoritarianism, the victory of Ukraine over Russia and the victory of security over repression,” he concluded.

“More military aid on the way to help Ukraine liberate more territory from Russian occupation,” added the Ukrainian minister on his official Twitter account.
