It is heard in the port of Ferrol (Spain) that Fergie “is no longer here”, that the famous blonde singer left the group six years ago, but the most golden moment of the Black Eyed Peas lives on in the collective imagination in such a way that the American band present appears blurred to part of the public.
It is the least of it, the long list of successes of the formation is enough to drag the curious and the unconditional, attracted by something that is not very common in the city, the celebration of concerts in which there are renowned guests from abroad.
The Ferrol Verán Festival has opened the summer calendar in the naval city this Sunday and jumps from the nostalgia of its previous edition, with Bonnie Tyler as the protagonist, to the even more danceable sounds of the creators of “I gotta feeling” or “Where is the love?”.
Black Eyed Peas is an inexcusable reference in a lineup that completes a host of musicians from the region itself, from the saxophonist Miguel Sueiras, who welcomes visitors as the doors open, or the local group Superglú.
Sueiras, with a long career in music and training as a teacher, immersed himself in fusion rhythms in Ibiza and shone with his appearances on television, where certain types of music do not easily find an echo if it is on commercial channels.
Point to Efe that for him “it’s amazing” to be part of the contest: “Before I knew I was going to be there, I was already bragging that the Black Eyed Peas were going to my city, I know people from Madrid who had already taken the ticket.”
“It’s a spectacular bet, I’m proud to see the poster in my land; the mix of local artists with people from abroad, I couldn’t be happier,” says the musician, full of “illusion” and who believes that Ferrol “deserves it “.
Sueiras mentions the recent interview on “El Hormiguero” (Antena 3) with Javier Cámara, star of the series “Rapa”, shot in the city, who has considered her one of his best ambassadors in recent years: “All my chats saying that our paradise was filling up, every time I take my friends they freak out with Ferrol”.
Behind the organization is the veteran Maxi López, from the Ferrol production company Run-Rum, who considers that this could become the “biggest concert in the history of Ferrol for what the assembly or the cache of artists are worth.”
“The industry has changed a lot and Ferrol enters the Champions League,” he adds to Efe about the Black Eyed Peas that open the central summer period in the city and that have set a few dates in the rest of Spain for the coming weeks.
Along with the historic Ortigueira International Festival of the Celtic World, the region of Ferrol also awaits highlights such as the Nachiños Fest, which takes place at the beginning of September and will include the only recital in Galicia by the British Crystal Fighters.
For now, at the Ferrol Verán Festival there is also room for a band from the area, Superglú, led by its singer, Sara Couce, who has prepared “with great desire” this special day.
“We are lucky, being able to participate in a festival with this line-up is brutal; they don’t give us half an hour, we have our time to play,” he assesses Efe as he begins to observe the public and take an interest in his fellow event: “Enjoy your city full of people and that they have us is incredible”.
