Black apple, the exotic fruit grown in Tibet

This black apple, also known as the black diamond, is grown in Tibet and its price per unit is one of the most expensive in the world. Their color is due to the high altitude of the area where they are produced.

This fruit, which has been with us since the dawn of human history, grows and is consumed in almost all parts of the world and has some rarities, such as this one: its black color.

Where does the black apple grow?

Black apples are only produced in the Nyingchi area of the Tibet Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China. It is located 3000 meters above sea level, and has a wide temperature range.

It is a very particular variety of apple that is grown in a single region of the planet. They have the Chinese name of Hua Niu and is known in the West as Black Diamond or Black Diamond in Spanish.

Although there are many varieties of apples that give this fruit a wide range of colors (from the traditional red, to acid green and the rare yellow), black stands out as the most exotic and difficult to obtain.

This variety obtains its dark hue thanks to the geographical conditions that occur for its cultivation. And it is that the height of 3,000 meters above sea level of the place where they grow offers quite extreme atmospheric conditions. The temperature fluctuates a lot between day and night.

In addition, apples are exposed to an excess of ultraviolet radiation, which favors the concentration of anthocyanins that results in that particular dark purple, almost black skin. Its pulp is still white inside, which makes it more contrasting.

The maturation process of a Black Diamond can take up to eight years and, therefore, it is very difficult to find it, since it is not the favorite of farmers in the region.
