Bizum reaches 25 million users

Bizum launches a simple, secure and password-free digital identification service

Bizumthe instant mobile payment solution from Spanish Banking, It already has 25 million users. This means that more than half of Spaniards have this payment method activated in their bank. This makes Bizum the most used mobile payment solution in Spain, seven years after its launch.

Since Bizum launched its people-to-people payment service in October 2016 and then expanded its use cases to e-commerce, donations and payments at points of sale of state lotteries and betting, Bizumers have carried out more than 2,295 million transactions, equivalent to more than 122,562 million euros transferred through Bizum .

Today, more than 52,000 electronic companies accept payments with Bizum, in addition to the more than 10,000 physical points of sale of state lotteries and betting, where they can pay out bets and collect prizes in person using this payment method. The number of social institutions that have a Bizum code for receiving donations is now 8,800.

According to Ángel Nigorra, general director of Bizum: “We see how Bizum, the service offered by Spanish and Andorran banks, is not only consolidating but also increasingly becoming one of the preferred payment methods of users. “Make a bizum” is now a common expression among citizens who increasingly see us as an ally in their everyday finances, sending money to acquaintances, paying in e-commerce or supporting social causes“.

Record number of Bizums in 2023

Bizum’s growing tendency to become one of the preferred payment methods of Spaniards is reflected in the service breaking records year after year. September 1st of this year saw the most Bizum operations in a single day, with more than 3.4 million, an average of more than 40 Bizums per second.

So far this year, 732 million operations have already been carried out via Bizum (an average of 28 Bizums per second), worth more than 40,236 million euros.
