Bitcoin (BTC) law El Salvador did not go without problems, president admits, Chivo wallet now 95% fixed

El Salvador passed the controversial bitcoin (BTC) law last week, on September 7. Bitcoin is now an official currency of the Central American country and a legal tender. That means retailers have to adopt it.

A week later, President Nayib Bukele admits that the implementation of the new law was not without problems. The president told Twitter on September 14 that having everything ready in three months may have been too much of a challenge. He admits that his government has made mistakes that they are now working on, especially regarding the so-called “Chivo” wallet.

Many Salvadorans complained last week that they were having problems with the new crypto wallet. Bukele says that 95% of all technical problems with Chivo have been solved and that the wallet will work 100% in the coming days.

It is currently no longer possible to register for the Chivo wallet nor to download the app on newer telephones. These options will not be re-enabled until all errors have been resolved. According to Bukele, that should be in a few days.

He adds that some profiles were blocked due to a registration error. These users will be removed from the platform so that they can register again soon. People who had problems with their balance transfer will get their money back “guaranteed”.

Finally, he reports about the wallet that there are already more than half a million users. In addition, the president reports that the 200 bitcoin ATMs, the Cajeros Chivo, and the 50 Puntos Chivo, kind of kiosks, all work “perfectly”.

Bukele also says that there are no fewer than 50 Chivo vending machines in the major cities in the US. He announces that the reload option will be enabled for credit and debit cards starting tomorrow. According to the president, you can then top up the Chivo wallet with any payment card, anywhere in the world, and without commission.
