Bijou Phillips is adjusting to a new chapter in her life. The 45-year-old actress is focusing on moving forward two years after divorcing her ex-husband, Danny Masterson. She seeks to create a peaceful and stable life for her 11-year-old daughter, Fianna, according to an exclusive source speaking to Us Weekly.
Masterson, 49, was initially accused in June 2020 of forcibly assaulting three women between 2001 and 2003. He consistently denied these allegations. Following a mistrial in November 2022, the former That ’70s Show actor’s new trial concluded in May 2023 with a conviction on two of the three charges.
Masterson, who did not testify in either trial, was sentenced in September 2023 to 30 years to life in prison. That same month, Phillips filed for divorce from the former The Ranch star after nearly 12 years of marriage. She was granted full custody of their daughter, Fianna.
Lauzon Paluch, Phillips’ attorney, stated at the time that the period had been "incredibly difficult for the marriage and family." Paluch also noted that Masterson "was always present for Ms. Phillips during the most difficult times of her life" and that Phillips "recognizes that Mr. Masterson is a wonderful father to their daughter."
On October 24, a judge officially declared Phillips and Masterson legally single. On the same day, Phillips filed a request to change Fianna’s surname from Masterson to Phillips, a change that remains pending approval.
Phillips’ primary concern is her daughter. The source told Us that Bijou is "fiercely protective of her." She wants her daughter to grow up without being defined by her father’s past or labeled by other children.
As she navigates this next phase, Phillips continues to reside at the family ranch in Santa Ynez, California. This location keeps her "away from the noise of Los Angeles," where she has cultivated a strong community, the insider shared.
While her closest friends and family remain in Bel Air and the city, she visits occasionally to reconnect. Phillips also makes frequent trips to New York.
Us Weekly has contacted Phillips’ attorney for further comment.
During her divorce from Masterson, Us exclusively reported in June 2024 that Phillips had begun a relationship with RE/DONE co-founder Jamie Mazur. Mazur, 44, shares two children, 17-year-old Anja and 13-year-old Noah, with his ex-fiancée, former Victoria’s Secret Angel Alessandra Ambrosio.
A source close to Mazur commented at the time that "Jamie is a great guy and has been there for [Phillips] during this very difficult time." Later that same month, Phillips and Mazur made their relationship public at a Pride event in New York, where an eyewitness described them as "a lovely couple."
Meanwhile, Masterson is actively fighting his conviction from prison. His legal team filed an appeal in December 2024. They contend that his new trial was "riddled with erroneous judicial rulings that skewed the jury’s perception of the evidence against him." The appeal also claims "there was a surprising amount of exculpatory evidence that was never presented to the jury."
