Bihar Cricket Association Appoints Vinayak Samant as New Coach for Upcoming Season

Vaibhav Suryavanshi is on a roll. After his impressive performance in IPL 2025, he’s been selected for India’s Under-19 team for the England tour. His friend and teammate, Ayush Mhatre, will lead the team as captain. Mhatre plays for CSK. Suryavanshi, just 14, honed his skills under Rahul Dravid’s coaching at the Rajasthan Royals camp. He played some explosive innings.

But now, his team’s journey has ended. And there’s news that his domestic cricket team has a new coach. The Bihar Cricket Association has appointed Vinayak Samant as the new coach for the upcoming season. Suryavanshi will train under Samant.

Samant used to play for Mumbai as a wicketkeeper in domestic cricket. He coached Mumbai for two seasons from 2018 to 2020. In the 2023-24 season, he was the fielding coach at the Assam Cricket Association academy. He also coached Mumbai’s U-19 team that season. Samant was coaching the Belgium team in the European League.

In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, Samant confirmed the news. He’s excited about his new role. Samant said he’s ready to take Bihar cricket forward and work with the talent there. About Suryavanshi, he said, “We’ve seen his talent in IPL 2025. He’s very young, and I don’t want to mess with his natural game. But I’d like to guide him to improve his red-ball cricket with small adjustments so he can do well in the Ranji Trophy.”

What’s Samant’s salary for the season? That’s not out yet. But media reports say it could be between 15 and 20 lakh rupees.

Suryavanshi made history in the IPL with a 101-run innings against Gujarat Titans on April 28. He scored a century in just 35 balls – the second-fastest in IPL history. Only Chris Gayle is ahead of him. Suryavanshi scored 252 runs in 7 matches with a strike rate of 206.55.
