Veteran actress Kunickaa Sadanand, at 61, is currently making waves as a contestant on ‘Bigg Boss 19’. Her son, Ayan Lall, an actor himself, recently opened up about his mother’s journey into the reality show. He shared deep insights into Kunickaa’s career and her personal struggles during a candid conversation with Amar Ujala.
Ayan Lall has witnessed his mother’s acting journey and the challenges she faced up close. He revealed many untold stories about her life. The decision for Kunickaa to join ‘Bigg Boss 19’ came as a bit of a surprise to her family. Ayan remembers his mother sitting at a table with some people around her when the news was shared. His brother was not present at that moment. The family wasn’t asked for their opinion beforehand.
About five minutes later, Kunickaa simply said, “Okay, everyone share your opinion.” The family offered mixed views; some were positive, others had doubts. A moment of silence followed. After another five minutes of thought, Kunickaa declared, “I am going to ‘Bigg Boss.'” She made the decision she felt was right and only asked for her family’s support.
Ayan admitted his biggest worry was his mother’s straightforward nature. She is a very clear and open person who lives life on her own terms. She never hides anything. He feared how she would cope in a house with people from different backgrounds and mindsets. Living together for months can be tough. He also worried about her not having her phone. His mother loves watching reels and doing podcasts. Not being able to access her favorite content was a concern. But Ayan knows that once his mother sets her mind to something, no one can stop her. She is incredibly strong and always follows through on her decisions.
Kunickaa Sadanand has faced some online criticism and trolling, especially regarding her comments about fellow contestant Tanya Mittal. There have been disagreements between them inside the ‘Bigg Boss’ house. Ayan believes that while his mother is generally well-liked, different dynamics always emerge in the ‘Bigg Boss’ house. He sees the trolling as part of the show. He explained that his family comes from a simple background. Tanya, on the other hand, is from Gwalior and comes from a more affluent family. Their lives and struggles have been very different. Tanya has endured many challenges alone; she isn’t married and has no children. Ayan suggests she might not fully grasp a mother’s perspective at this point in her life.
Such differences often lead to misunderstandings and disagreements. People react in various ways when they don’t understand someone else’s viewpoint. Tanya herself admitted that she isn’t skilled in many kitchen chores, as her mother never taught her these things. Everyone has a different way of looking at the world. So, Ayan believes that outside discussions are not due to bad intentions. These disagreements simply arise from different life experiences. He advises people not to take these matters personally.
There have also been comments within ‘Bigg Boss 19’ calling Kunickaa a “flop actress.” Ayan reflected on his mother’s long journey. He shared that Mahesh Bhatt once saw her and said, “Daughter, your personality, height, and the sparkle in your eyes can make you the country’s biggest star. Wait two years; I am writing an excellent film for you.” Yash Johar also advised her not to take small roles and to wait for bigger projects.
However, things did not go as planned. The family’s financial situation was difficult. If Kunickaa had stopped working, the family’s income would have ceased. It would have become harder to fight a legal case for her son. She was forced to keep working continuously. She didn’t enter the film industry for glamour. Instead, circumstances pushed her into it. Ayan believes that if she had financial security, no one would ever dare to call her a flop.
