Biden will posthumously honor Steve Jobs for his contribution to progress

Apple co-founder Steve Jobs will posthumously receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom in the hands of the Biden government.

The award will recognize Jobs’ contribution to digital progress with products like the Mac, iPod, iPhone and iPad, as well as services like iTunes, which revolutionized the way people consume music.

In a statement on White House website, management explains why it chose Jobs to receive the award:

Steve Jobs (died 2011) was the co-founder, CEO and president of Apple, Inc. and CEO of Pixar, and played a prominent role in the Walt Disney Company.

His vision, imagination and creativity spawned inventions that changed, and continue to change, the way the world communicates, as well as the computer, music, film and wireless industries.

Steve Jobs died on October 5, 2011, after battling pancreatic cancer. One of Apple’s last big product announcements while he was running the company was the iPad.

Tim Cook took over as CEO after Jobs left the company and still holds the position today. Since then, the company has launched great new products such as the Apple Watch and HomePod, and has significantly increased its presence in the world of services.

There will be 16 other people who will receive the award, including Denzel Washington and John McCain (posthumously). The awards will be presented at the White House on Thursday, July 7th.
