The Indian Premier League (IPL) has reached its midpoint, with every team having played at least seven games. One thing that’s become a staple of the tournament is the post-match camaraderie between players from opposing teams. They often linger on the field, chatting and laughing together. This friendly banter isn’t limited to players; team owners and support staff also join in.
What’s Said on the Field?
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, a Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) player, recently shared what goes on during these post-match conversations. According to him, the chats are mostly light-hearted and humorous. “We’re just having fun, cracking jokes, and being silly,” he said. “If you listen to our conversations, you’d think we’re talking nonsense.” While cricket is occasionally discussed, it’s not the main focus. Out of a 10-minute chat, cricket-related talk might only last a couple of minutes.
A Special Bond Among Fast Bowlers
Bhuvneshwar revealed that some cricketers are more enjoyable to hang out with than others. He singled out Ishant Sharma, saying, “We formed a strong bond, not just with Ishant, but also with Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami. As fast bowlers, we stuck together and enjoyed teasing each other.” Their time together was special, filled with banter and good humor.
Bhuvneshwar noted that while they still meet up, the atmosphere has changed over time. He’s become more outgoing since his early days as a player. “I used to be introverted, but I’m not as much now,” he admitted. “I don’t hesitate to talk to others like I used to.”
Bhuvi’s IPL Career
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has had a successful IPL career, playing 146 matches and taking 154 wickets. He started playing in the IPL in 2011 and has represented RCB, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Pune Warriors.
