Hazarika was born on September 8, 1926, in the Tinsukia district of Assam. He was a true natural talent. Music ran in his family, as his mother was a singer. By the age of ten, he wrote and sang his very first song. Just two years later, at twelve, he appeared in the Assamese film ‘Indramalati’. He wasn’t just a singer; he was a lyricist, a composer, and even a filmmaker. He deeply understood Assamese music and was a gifted writer in the language.
His Voice Reached Far and Wide
Hazarika’s talent couldn’t be kept to one place. He soon became a sensation in the Hindi film world. Songs like ‘Dil Hoom Hoom Kare’ and ‘O Ganga Tu Bahti Hai Kyon’ touched millions. His voice held a special magic. He sang in many languages, including Hindi, Bengali, and his native Assamese. He even sang the devotional song ‘Vaishnav Jan’ for the film ‘Gandhi to Hitler’.
