Beware of losing Apple Vision Pro: your location cannot be tracked

Buyers of the brand new Apple Vision Pro headset should be very careful not to lose it. Unlike the iPhone and many other Apple devices, this headset’s location cannot be tracked in the Find My app.

A supporting document states: Apple confirms that a Vision Pro’s location cannot be displayed in the Find My app on another Apple device or on iCloud.com.

Of the Find My features, the Vision Pro only supports Activation Lock, which ensures a thief can only erase or configure the headset if they know the owner’s Apple ID and password.

When you enable Find My, you protect your Vision Pro with Activation Lock, but you cannot use another Apple device or the Internet to find Vision Pro on a map, play a sound to help you find the Activate lost mode or delete it remotely.

While it’s reassuring to know that a thief can’t simply delete your Vision Pro and set it up with their own Apple ID, it may be surprising that it’s not possible to track its location in the Find My app. This means that if you lose your Vision Pro, you will no longer be able to easily find it.

It’s unclear why the Vision Pro doesn’t support “Find My” location tracking, but the lack of a built-in battery and GPS in the headset could have something to do with it.

Although many people use the Vision Pro primarily as an entertainment device at home, which significantly reduces the risk of losing the headset, Apple promotes the use of the Vision Pro on airplanes and other environments outside the home. Due to its high price, the rifle scope could be particularly attractive to thieves.
