The negotiations between the green and white club and the entourage of the Castellón midfielder have intensified and when they appear they are close to seeing the light. Everything depends on another inner movement.
Midfielder Pablo Fornals and Betis have been linked since 2023, where they are apparently close to an agreement (transfer). The Castellón native's current contract expires on June 30 and West Ham United have not yet expressed interest in an extension. Maybe that will never happen and that's why the 27-year-old midfielder wants to return to Spain.
Although Villarreal CF, the team where Pablo Fornals played from 2017 to 2019, had expressed interest, it will be the Sevillian side that signs the player. However, as we mentioned at the beginning, this operation depends on another within the Bética force. Specifically, it will be the eventual departure of Borja Iglesias to the Bundesliga.
Pablo Fornals' transfer depends on Borja Iglesias' departure
Due to salary problems, the green and white club is dependent on the striker's departure, as Bayer Leverkusen has agreed to pay his signing or a large part of it. Practically the salary of the Compostela striker is allocated to the attacking midfielder coming from England. At least that's what Ángel Haro believes, who is taking care of these issues while a new sports director is hired.
Fornals will come to Betis in the same way as Borja Iglesias to the Die Werkself team, on loan with an option to buy. Although the former Malaga player ends his contract with the Hammer team at the end of the season, they want to ensure a sale where they can get a small return. And the player cost 28 million euros in 2019.
Even if Borja Iglesias leaves Betis on loan, the arrival of Pablo Fornals is not assured
The British club hopes that the Heliopolitan team will accept the mandatory purchase option for the attacking midfielder's loan. The base price is currently 17 kilos and the English team hopes to be able to sell it for around 8 million euros. Ángel Haro would have no problem paying that amount, but it all depends on what happens to the former Espanyol striker.
Should Bayer Leverkusen also exercise the purchase option on Borja Iglesias' loan, which will be worth 10 million euros, the money will flow into Pablo Fornals' business. However, the German team is currently only considering a loan deal and will bring the attacker back to Betis once it is completed. A decision that distances the possibility of signing the Valencian midfielder.
