In a surprise twist in the transfer market, 27-year-old attacking midfielder Pablo Fornals is set to join Real Betis from West Ham United before his contract closes. According to Fabrizio Romano, Betis have reached a verbal agreement with the English club to complete the transfer of the talented Spanish international, strengthening their ranks before the market closes.
Fornals, who made an indelible impression during his two years at Villarreal, became a key target for Betis. With 203 appearances and 42 goals for the Hammers, the versatile player has played a crucial role in various positions in both midfield and attack. However, despite his importance, his playing time has declined in recent seasons, indicating a change in his status within the team.
Fornals, a wish from Pellegrini
Fornals’ contract expires at the end of the season and the Hammers needed to make room in their squad following the acquisition of Kalvin Phillips. Rather than lose the attacking midfielder on a free transfer in the summer, they decided to use the opportunity to receive financial compensation for his services.
Real Betis, on the other hand, wanted to strengthen their offensive and found the perfect solution in Fornals. After several rounds of negotiations, the Spanish team has reached an oral agreement with West Ham, agreeing to pay a fixed fee of €6 million plus add-ons worth €4 million. They are currently finalizing documentation before the deal officially closes. With this strategic integration, Betis demonstrates its ambition and determination in the competition.
