Betis CEO Backs Coach Pellegrini Amid Criticism and Poor Results

The recent defeat at Balaídos has sparked criticism towards various aspects of the Betis team, including the management by the coaching staff led by Manuel Pellegrini. However, Ramón Alarcón, the CEO of the club, has made it clear that Pellegrini’s future as the team’s coach is not in doubt. In a recent interview on Radio Sevilla’s program “Free and direct,” Alarcón expressed his confidence in the team’s ability to turn their current bad streak around.

Alarcón stated, “Hopefully the bad streak ends as soon as possible. We lose games against teams below the table we used to win. But we don’t think about that, we think that the ranks, now in the Gent and then in the Real Sociedad.” He emphasized that the team has demonstrated its capacity to achieve its goals in several phases of the season, but needs to close games effectively. Alarcón also mentioned that the technicians and players are sure that they will take this forward and he hopes that in May, the team will be better than it is now.

As Alarcón pointed out, “Betis has the capacity to achieve its goals, we need to close the games, but surely the team takes it forward.” He also highlighted the good relationship between the club and Pellegrini, saying, “We have a magnificent relationship from day one. Now we focus with him on reversing the situation. You have to win more.” Alarcón emphasized that the club is not thinking about debates regarding Pellegrini’s cycle as coach, but rather about how to improve the team’s performance.

Regarding the reasons behind the team’s loss to Celtic, Alarcón noted that football is unpredictable and that unexpected things can happen. He mentioned that the technical staff has had discussions and drawn conclusions, but did not elaborate on the specifics. Alarcón also valued the work done in the winter market, stating that the club met its needs and is reasonably satisfied with the results.

The CEO also made it clear that all signings had Pellegrini’s endorsement and that there is no forecast for the Chilean coach to leave his position. Alarcón said, “The signings are made by the Betis, the successes and failures are from Betis. The coach marked us some priorities, he is in contact daily with the sports director. Alternatives with economic restrictions are discussed. The approval of all parties is necessary, consensual decisions.” He emphasized that Pellegrini has a voice in signings and that his contract has a year and a half left, with no indication that he will not comply with it.

As Alarcón concluded, “The coach’s debate is not in the club, at the journalistic level I see yes. We only focus on how to be more competitive.” He acknowledged that there is debate on the street, but emphasized that Pellegrini is a stabilizer and that the club needs to have peace of mind and not raise alarms when results are not as expected. Alarcón reiterated that the club is not focusing on debates about Pellegrini, but rather on how to improve the team’s competitiveness and win games.
