Benoot joins the party by winning in Kuurne with a double from Jumbo

The Belgian cyclist Tiesj Benoot, from the Jumbo-Visma team, won the Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne after surprising by attacking a group with four other cyclists who started their breakaway at the start of the finish line more than 115 kilometers from the finish line. With the peloton over a minute away; together with Benoot, his teammate and compatriot Nathan Van Hooydonck faced the decisive stage ready to fight for the victory; fellow Belgian Tim Wellens; the Slovenian Matej Mohoric; and the Dutch Taco Van der Hoorn.

Van Hooydonck was the first to seriously threaten with a kilometer to go, taking Wellens to his wheel. Both were neutralized in their attempt and, with 600 meters aheadthe time came for a Benoot that started from behind without anyone being able to follow in its wake.

In the subsequent sprint Van Hooydonck prevailed, achieving second place and shortly after the Frenchman Christophe Laporte led the pack, thus placing the Jumbo-Visma three of its troops in the top-6. With this he closed a great weekend after winning the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad the day before at the hands of the Dutchman Dylan van Baarle, with Laporte third; and that the Danish Jonas Vingegaard, current winner of the Tour, conquered O Gran Camiño after adding to his stage victory on Friday those of Saturday and Sunday. Among the Spaniards, Iván García Cortia was eleventh.
