Bengal Files Row: Pallavi Joshi Questions Freedom, Compares Bengal to Kashmir

A movie premiere in Kolkata took an unexpected turn when police stepped in. The trailer launch for “The Bengal Files” was stopped, causing big delays. This incident left actress and producer Pallavi Joshi fuming. She spoke out clearly about her feelings.

Joshi, who also worked on “The Kashmir Files,” was very upset. She believes this whole messy event just proves her film is needed more than ever. She shared that when they filmed in Kashmir, nothing like this happened. This led her to ask a tough question: “Are things in Bengal worse than in Kashmir?”

A Call for Free Expression

Pallavi Joshi was keen to talk about free speech. She questioned if artists truly have a voice there. It’s a state’s job to respect artists, she said. But the situation didn’t show that at all. “When a filmmaker can’t even show their own movie,” she noted, “what kind of freedom is that?” She wondered why such fear exists.

She wants every person across the country to see the movie. For her, it’s about making sure everyone knows the truth about Bengal. She feels strongly that the film is important to share with a wide audience.

About the Film
