The Benfica basketball team made history by becoming the national champion for the fourth time. They dominated the FC Porto team, winning 71-93 in the fourth game of the finals. This victory sealed their win in the best-of-five series, 3-1. Led by coach Norberto Alves, the team took home their 31st title.
Benfica started strong, winning the first two games at home, 95-94 and 89-81. But they lost the first away game, 82-75. They bounced back, winning the second away game by a wide margin. The team was on fire, leading by 21 points at halftime and at one point, they were ahead by 28 points.
The FC Porto team had a strong start in the previous game, but this time, Benfica was ready. They came out strong, taking a 6-2 lead. But FC Porto didn’t back down, tying the game and then taking the lead, 7-6. The game was intense, with both teams making mistakes and neither able to score.
Then, something changed. Benfica hit six three-pointers in a row, taking the lead and never looking back. By the end of the first quarter, they were up by two points, 19-21. In the second quarter, Benfica kept pushing, taking a 10-point lead. FC Porto tried to catch up, but Benfica’s Betinho Gomes hit three three-pointers in a row, putting his team up by 15 points.
The Benfica team kept going, taking a 21-point lead by halftime. The FC Porto team tried to regroup during the break, but Benfica didn’t let up. They kept pushing, and by the third quarter, they were up by more than 20 points. FC Porto tried to make a comeback, but it was too late.
