Benfica’s basketball coach Norberto Alves broke down the team’s win over FC Porto. The victory secured their fourth consecutive title.
“We won this game on defense,” Alves said. “We limited Porto’s offense and that made our own attack easier. We scored a lot of high-efficiency points.”
Alves pointed to another key factor: the team’s strategy to speed up the game in the previous match. “We tried to wear them down so they’d be tired for this game. It worked out, but it wasn’t a sure thing.”
The season was tough, with many injuries. Diogo Gameiro was out with a rupture, and José Silva had just returned. “But all the guys stepped up. I’m not the one who plays, they are. They deserve the credit.”
Alves thanked the team’s management for their support during the tough times. “When we had injuries and needed to make signings to fill the gaps, they trusted us to finish the regular season in first place and have the home-court advantage.”
