Benfica Signs Powerful Danish Right Back Kristian Olsen

Benfica’s handball squad just got a big boost. Kristian Olsen, a powerful Danish right-back, has joined the club. He comes from Iceland’s Ystads team, a familiar opponent from the European League’s Main Round.

Olsen, a left-handed player, brings a lot of physical presence to the court. He stands at 1.98 meters tall and weighs 98 kilograms. This strong build helps him make a big impact in games. Last season, the 25-year-old scored an impressive 65 goals.

He steps in after Demis Grigoras, the Romanian player, moved to Tatabánya in Hungary. Olsen’s arrival provides a key offensive and defensive asset. In the European League, he posted a 68.4% shooting accuracy, placing him among the top ten players for successful shots.

Olsen has already visited the Estádio da Luz, Benfica’s home. He shared his excitement with BTV, saying he felt “fantastic” and was “eager to start.” He described his own play as having a “strong shot” and being a “good defender.”

When asked about the Portuguese league, Olsen showed he knows his rivals. He mentioned Benfica, FC Porto, and Sporting as strong teams. He promised that his new team would “give them a good fight.”

Before joining Benfica, Olsen played for Fredericia from 2018 to 2022. He then moved to Nordsjaelland, playing there from 2022 to 2024. His goal for Benfica is clear: to “win as much as possible.”
