Benfica secured a crucial 2-0 victory against E. Amadora, narrowing the gap to just one point behind league leader Torreense, which suffered an unexpected defeat.
The win positions Benfica strongly in the title race. Torreense’s home loss to Farense allowed Benfica to capitalize, despite Torreense having played one more fixture.
João Afonso opened the scoring for Benfica with a header. Gustavo Ferreira later sealed the victory, also heading in a goal from a cross by Isaac Ferreira on the left wing.
Benfica had an early opportunity to take the lead in the 12th minute from a penalty. Defender Diogo Rocha, however, struck the post, missing the chance.
The second half saw both teams create chances. E. Amadora’s Tiago Rodrigues hit the post, while the Benfica goalkeeper denied Ivanildo Siga an equalizer in the 49th minute.
The Benfica goalkeeper continued to make key saves, protecting the lead through the second half. Coach Vitor Vinha’s team maintained its advantage.
E. Amadora, in contrast, remains near the bottom of the league table. The team is second to last with 10 points, three points ahead of last-place Estoril.
