Benfica Foundation Aids Pedro Figueiredo After Oliveira do Hospital Fires

Pedro Figueiredo went through a terrible time. A huge fire swept through Oliveira do Hospital, taking his home. Yet, in front of his ruined house, he held something precious: a tiled Benfica flag. This powerful image of loyalty, even in loss, quickly caught people’s attention.

The Benfica Foundation saw his struggle. They recognized a fan facing disaster. These fires had devastated parts of the country. So, the Foundation decided to step in and offer a helping hand. They invited Pedro to a special event.

Pedro found himself in a place many fans only dream of. He sat in the presidential box at a Benfica game, watching the team play Tondela. It was an afternoon he would never forget. He spoke after receiving a special gift. “This is Benfica, you really feel it,” he said, visibly moved. “It’s a day I will never forget. Thank you. My deepest gratitude to everyone.”

Carlos Moia, the executive president of the Benfica Foundation, gave Pedro two meaningful items. One was a Benfica jersey with the number 10. This number honored Rui Costa, Pedro’s hero from his playing days. The other was a new Benfica flag, just like the one he had lost in the fire.

During a short ceremony at halftime, Carlos Moia shared why this gesture mattered. “Pedro truly represents the Benfica spirit,” Moia stated. “He had to leave his house, but he did not leave behind the things that belonged to Benfica.” It was a moment that showed the strong bond between a club and its dedicated supporters.
