Benfica Faces Valencia, Betis, Fiorentina in Barrenechea Midfielder Race

Enzo Barrenechea

Enzo Barrenechea is turning heads across Europe. The young midfielder spent last season on loan at Valencia. Now, clubs are lining up to sign him. Benfica is certainly keen on bringing him in. But they face tough competition for his signature.

Valencia wants to keep Barrenechea for good. He played 32 games for them. He scored one goal and made two assists. Their coach, Carlos Corberán, has already spoken to Aston Villa. Aston Villa owns Barrenechea, but he’s never played a single game for them. Corberán wants to know what it would take to make the move permanent.

Valencia is not alone in this race. Spanish newspaper ‘Marca’ reports more teams are watching Barrenechea closely. Both Betis and Fiorentina are also eyeing the Argentine talent. It seems his time at Valencia truly put him on the map.

Barrenechea started his career at Newell’s. He then had a short spell with Sion. After that, he moved to Italian giants Juventus. He only played five games for Juventus. Then, he went on loan to Frosinone. Aston Villa later bought him for about 8 million euros. But for whatever reason, he never actually got to wear their jersey on the field. Now, his future is a big talking point.
