The wait is over! Women’s national volleyball kicks off this Saturday. Benfica steps onto the court in Fiães, ready to defend a championship title that returned to them just last season. It was a remarkable victory, especially since the club hadn’t claimed this specific trophy in 50 years. They battled Sp. Braga in an intense five-match series to seal the deal. The Eagles are already showing strong form, having secured the Super Cup earlier this season with a decisive win over Sporting.
This new season brings familiar faces eager to challenge Benfica’s reign. Sporting, often called the Lionesses, enters the fray as winners of the Portuguese Cup. FC Porto, who were champions in 2023/24, are also prime contenders. And, of course, Sp. Braga will be looking for revenge after last season’s championship defeat. These teams promise to make the race for the title an exciting one.
The opening weekend is packed with action. Beyond the Fiães versus Benfica match set for 4 PM on Saturday, fans can also catch Clube K taking on FC Porto at 5 PM the same day. Sunday brings even more volleyball. At 4 PM, four more thrilling games are scheduled:
- V. Guimarães against Ac. S. Mamede
- Leixões facing Sp. Braga
- C. Maia battling Sporting
- And PV2014 playing Esmoriz
