American Ben Martin comfortably navigated the 18 holes of the first round of the Corales Puntacana Championship, a PGA TOUR event that is being played for the fifth time in the Dominican Republic in the great design of Tom Fazio.
Ben made 66 shots (-6) in a difficult day for the players, in which the wind was a determining factor. His card features 8 birdies and two bogeys, enough to put him atop the leaderboard, which features fellow countryman Adam Schenk one shot behind him. In third position, with -4, appear Vaughn Taylor, Haydn Buckley, the 2019 tournament champion, Grame McDowell, and Kirardech Aphibarnrat. The other past champions on the court were as follows: Joel Dahmen (1), Bryce Garnett (+2) and Hudson Swafford (+2).
Dominicans.
The round of the day was not the best for our criollos and three of them appear tied for 80th place (Manuel Relancio, Juan José Guerra and Willy Pumarol, all with +2). Hiram Silfa is ranked 116th with +8.
The action continues today and culminates on Sunday when a new event champion will be crowned.
