  • Sourav Ganguly said that Virat now needs to score runs for himself too

Sourav Ganguly-Virat Kohli: The Chairman of the Board of Cricket of India (BCCI), Sourav Ganguly, has given a big statement about star batsman Virat Kohli who is constantly struggling against his form. The Indian team will start their campaign against Pakistan in the 2022 Asian Cup from Sunday, August 28. Dada clearly told Virat that he now needs to score runs not only for India but also for himself. Kohli has failed to score three runs in international cricket after scoring a century in the Pink Ball Test against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens in 2019.

He will return after the break of the Asian Cup 2022 and would like to try to recover the rhythm of yesteryear. During a conversation, Ganguly said about Kohli: “He (Kohli) needs to score runs not only for India but for himself. I hope it will be a good season for them. We all believe that he will be back in rhythm.” Ganguly, one of India’s most successful captains, said: “I am sure that while we are all waiting for his century, he is also working equally hard for his son. In T20 cricket, batsmen have less time, so the chances of scoring a century are slimmer, but hopefully it will be a successful season for Kohli.

Virat Kohli, 33, took a month off after touring England in June-July. The Indian team has played limited series of overs in the West Indies and Zimbabwe during this period. Kohli’s highest score in the last five innings has been 20 runs in the second innings of the fifth Test against England. After leaving the captaincy of the Royal Challengers Bangalore, his bat did not live up to expectations even in the 15th season of the Indian Premier League. He scored 341 runs in 16 matches at IPL 2022 at an average of 22.73.

Dada also said about the India-Pakistan match

Defending champions India will kick off their Asian Cup campaign with a match against Pakistan on August 28. Pakistan had defeated the Indian team in the World Cup last year at the same venue. Ganguly said that the T20 World Cup defeat will have little influence on the outcome of the upcoming matches. Ganguly said: “I have been closely watching Indo-Pak matches since 1992. We have lost only once in these 30 years. It is not magic that the result will always be in your favour. Sometimes you lose, it is not a big deal.
