Fernandes cut through the water in lane three. She finished with an impressive time of 2 minutes, 11.45 seconds. Only one athlete proved faster on this day. Italy’s Olympia Della Giustina claimed gold, finishing 2.23 seconds ahead of Beatriz.

The battle for the podium was fierce. Macedonia’s Elena Grizan earned the bronze medal. She crossed the finish line just 3.25 seconds behind the Italian winner. It was a close finish for all the top contenders.

This silver medal for Beatriz Fernandes marked a big moment for Portugal. It was the country’s second podium finish at these championships. Just the day before, on Friday, Portugal celebrated its first medal. Pedro Casinha won a bronze in the K1 200 meters Under-23 race.

These combined Under-23 and junior World Championships are a massive event. They bring together around 1,000 athletes. Competitors from 66 different countries are all vying for glory on the water.
