Be careful if you receive a call with a Hamburg area code and it is not a phone number you know. Because then there is a high probability that it is an annoying spam caller. At least that’s what the latest analysis from Clever Dialer says, which presents the ten worst spam phone numbers of August 2023.
To be precise, these are the landline numbers from Hamburg that steal most of the time from callers and can potentially cost a lot of money:
040756748005: The uncrowned spam king of August 2023. Those called report that the callers quickly become unfriendly. The callers try to persuade you to provide energy advice. Those affected also report receiving several calls from this number in a row.
040756748009: If this number rings your doorbell, they are probably also trying to talk you into a new electricity tariff. The same applies here: the callers are persistent.
040299969990: The callers who call this Hamburg number apparently want to persuade their victims to take part in a competition. The callers are even so bold as to want to know their victims’ bank details. That sounds very dangerous: So hang up immediately.
040299992030: This is once again about a new electricity contract. Hanging up immediately will certainly save more money and time than “advice” from this caller.
But it’s not just Hamburg phone numbers that spammers and fraudsters use to call their potential victims. Also cell phone numbers like that 015223363960 and the 015210923002 are used. It’s about competitions.
Even a phone number that claims to be from Leeds, UK, has to be used for spam calls. If the 00441134900538 appears on your display, there is a risk of competition fraud again.
Last but not least, there is the 004366475058960 also a spam number from Austria that made it into the top 10 of Clever Dialer. It is unknown what the caller actually wants with his repeated calls.
Clever Dialer states about the distribution of spam numbers: “With a total of 66.2 percent, the landline is still the most popular choice, but mobile connections (33.8 percent) are also increasingly being used by fraudsters.”

This is how you react correctly
Hang up immediately if the content of the telephone conversation seems strange and you were not expecting the call. Under no circumstances should you provide any information about yourself and block the number on your router or smartphone immediately. You can read more about this in Creating a Fritzbox block list against spam calls.
