BCCI Withholds Employee Payments Amid IPL 2025 and WPL Seasons

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season came to a close on June 3, with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) emerging as champions after defeating the Punjab Kings by six runs in the final. However, it has now been revealed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to pay its employees in full for their work during the tournament. Some payments have been pending since January.

According to a report by the Press Trust of India (PTI), the BCCI recently made changes to its payment policy during its annual meeting. The new policy sets a daily allowance of 10,000 rupees. The board has not made payments to its employees since January, and these will now be made according to the new policy. Under the previous policy, employees received a daily allowance of 15,000 rupees for short trips.

A BCCI source told PTI that after tax deductions, employees received 6,500 rupees per day. The BCCI has not made payments to its finance, operations, and media departments for the WPL and IPL 2025 seasons. The IPL 2025 tournament lasted around 70 days, which means the BCCI has withheld around 700,000 rupees from its employees.

For foreign tours, employees will receive $300 per day, equivalent to around 25,875 rupees. This policy will be implemented starting with the India-England series. On the other hand, high-ranking officials such as the president, secretary, treasurer, vice-president, and joint secretary receive $1,000 per day, equivalent to around 86,250 rupees. Senior officials also receive 40,000 rupees per day for meetings outside India and 30,000 rupees per day for domestic meetings.

The BCCI’s new payment policy has raised questions about the board’s financial management and its treatment of employees. The delay in payments to employees has been a topic of concern, and it remains to be seen how the BCCI will address this issue.
