The Indian Premier League (IPL) is once again embroiled in controversy, with allegations of match-fixing surfacing against the Rajasthan Royals team. Jaydeep Bihani, coordinator of the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA), leveled the accusations, sparking a heated debate. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has now responded, dismissing the claims as a “drama” orchestrated by the RCA.
Behind the Scenes
A BCCI official revealed that the RCA is currently under suspension pending elections, which Bihani is contesting. This, the official suggested, is the motivation behind the match-fixing allegations. The BCCI has established an anti-corruption unit to root out malpractices in the association.
The Rajasthan Royals have strongly denied the allegations. They say such claims not only mislead the public but also tarnish the team’s reputation. The team also believes these claims erode fan trust. The Royals emphasized that the allegations also undermine the integrity of cricket.
More to the Story
The RCA’s dissatisfaction with the IPL stems partly from a reduction in ticket allocations. They used to get 1,800 tickets per match, but this number has been cut to between 1,000 and 1,200 this season. The Rajasthan State Sports Council (RSSC) now oversees arrangements due to the RCA’s suspension.
The BCCI’s statement has effectively quashed the match-fixing allegations, maintaining that the IPL remains free from such malpractices.
