The Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to resume on May 17 after a brief hiatus due to heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. However, concerns are rising as several foreign players are uncertain about returning to India.
Pressure on Foreign Boards
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is urging foreign cricket boards to persuade their players to return to India. According to a report by the news agency PTI, the BCCI and IPL teams are in talks with foreign boards to ensure their players return for the remaining matches. Cricket Australia and the England and Wales Cricket Board are among those being approached.
Player Uncertainty
Some foreign players are hesitant to return due to ongoing security concerns. Cricket Australia has left the decision to return up to its players. Team officials say most players are likely to return, but some may not. For example, Australian all-rounders Marcus Stoinis and Josh Inglis, who play for Punjab Kings, are unlikely to return. However, coach Ricky Ponting is trying to convince them.

- Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai
- South Africa’s Marco Jansen
are expected to return.
Team Standings
Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad are out of the playoff race, while Punjab Kings still have a chance. Sunrisers Hyderabad is hoping for the return of captain Pat Cummins and Travis Head. The revised IPL schedule was announced after a ceasefire was declared between India and Pakistan, allowing the tournament to continue.
