The new head of the BCCI, Roger Binny, was in trouble as soon as he took office. India Cricket Board Ethics Officer Vineet Saran recently sent a notice to Roger Binny seeking his response. Binny was asked to submit a written response in the conflict of interest case against him following the allegation made by Saran on behalf of whistleblower Sanjeev Gupta, the PTI news agency reported. The complainant has alleged that Binny has a conflict of interest as his daughter-in-law, Mayanti Langer, works for Star Sports, which has the rights to broadcast the Indian domestic cricket season. However, now a new news has come out in this matter.

Big relief for Binny

Judge (Ret) Vineet Saran, BCCI (Cricket Board of India) Ethics Officer, dismissed the conflict of interest case against Board Chairman Roger Binny, saying there is no basis on the claims of plaintiff Sanjeev Gupta. Gupta, in his complaint, had argued that Binny’s daughter-in-law, Mayanti Langer, was working with Star Sports as Binny’s ‘anchor’, which is contracted to BCCI, creating a conflict of interest. Star Sports is the official broadcaster of all ICC (International Cricket Council) tournaments, including the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the national tournaments of the Indian national team.

A former Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) chief council member, Gupta has filed complaints against famous Indian cricketers including Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman and Virat Kohli. Judge Saran, in his 11-page, 20-point brief, dismissed Gupta’s complaint and also sternly warned him not to share documents related to the complaint with “unrelated parties.” Gupta is in the habit of emailing all of his documents to hundreds of journalists, former and current BCCI officials. In the sentence uploaded to bci.tv, Saran said: “The case of the complainant (Gupta) is not that Mayanti Langer is involved in the sales, marketing, business or management of Star Sports. ,

“She is hosting live streams and panels for Star Sports. The fact is that the broadcasting rights of BCCI and IPL were granted to Star Sports on April 5, 2018 and June 27, 2022 and that is also not in dispute. “Therefore, it cannot be said that the defendant (Binny) as president helped her daughter-in-law to join Star Sports. Mayanti Langer is not even an employee of Star Sports and only works under contract as a ‘anchor’. ,

all the accusations were useless

Saran said: “Therefore, there is no conflict of interest anywhere in his dealings with Star Sports, so it cannot be assumed that there will be a conflict of interest.” In fact, Saran made it clear that the mere father-in-law and daughter-in-law relationship between Binny and Mayanti Langer is not enough to constitute a case of conflict of interest. Judge Saran also issued a stern warning to Gupta that he must send these complaints and documents only to the parties involved and must not enter the public domain.
