BBVA’s decision to partner with AWS in 2023 has led to the successful creation of its global cloud data platform, ADA. This platform has enabled the bank to migrate 100% of its data in Europe and Uruguay, involving tens of thousands of processes and thousands of users, without any disruptions to its services.
ADA has been instrumental in driving BBVA’s internal process transformation, risk model management, and global growth. It has also enabled the bank to provide more innovative solutions to its clients, positioning itself as a leader in the technological transformation of the financial sector.
The ADA platform offers several benefits, including efficient data storage, flexibility, and scalability. It also provides enhanced security for BBVA’s customer and operations data repository, allowing different units of the bank to access real-time information and knowledge about the business and market.
A Platform Designed for the Future
The scalability and processing capacity of the cloud have reduced the uptime of end users’ analytical work environments on the platform by 94%. ADA also enables BBVA to dynamically scale resources to adapt to demand, optimizing costs and performance.
The platform allows for a more global and homogeneous service, with a greater capacity to adapt to customer needs in real-time. This enables faster deployment of new products and hyper-personalization in customer service.
According to Marta Sanz, global head of Data Engineering at BBVA, “The migration of ADA has paved the way for the incorporation of technological innovations from leading cloud service providers like AWS. This will enable us to maximize the full potential of artificial intelligence in our solutions.”
The implementation of ADA involved a complex migration process, which was overcome through a focus on key areas such as security, regulation, data migration, and change management.
Carlos Casas, global director of Engineering at BBVA, stated, “This milestone highlights the bank’s commitment to technological innovation and its vision of the future as a leader in the democratization of data use globally.”
Scott Mullins, Managing Director of Financial Services at AWS, added, “BBVA’s ADA platform is a pioneering project in the adoption of cloud technology within the banking sector. It demonstrates BBVA’s ability to adapt and evolve in a dynamic environment, transforming internal processes and increasing operational efficiency.”
The development of ADA was a collaborative effort involving multiple areas within BBVA, supported by strategic partners like AWS and Accenture.
