Bayern Munich Nears Signing of Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah and Florian Wirtz.

The Bayern Munich transfer saga continues. After failing to snag Jonathan Tah last summer, the Bavarians are now poised to make a strong move for the Bayer Leverkusen defender. The 29-year-old central defender has reportedly entered advanced talks with Bayern, with a potential three-year contract on the table, plus a possible one-year extension.

Tah’s current deal expires this summer, and Leverkusen marked his likely departure with a farewell gesture last Sunday. Just two days later, The Athletic broke news of the impending Bayern deal. The German international’s exit was initially speculated to be linked to Xabi Alonso’s departure to Real Madrid, but the Madrid club has reportedly written off their chances of signing him.

Bayern’s interest in Tah is part of a broader strategy to raid Leverkusen’s talent pool. The club is also eyeing creative midfielder Florian Wirtz, who could cost between €130-150 million. This aggressive recruitment drive is consistent with Bayern’s history of poaching top Bundesliga talent. Past examples include signing Manuel Neuer from Schalke 04 in 2011, as well as Robert Lewandowski, Mats Hummels, and Mario Götze from Borussia Dortmund.

Targeting Leverkusen’s Core

Tah and Wirtz are key players in Leverkusen’s current success, built around Xabi Alonso’s tactical model. Their potential departures would significantly impact the team’s dynamics. Bayern’s move would be a major coup, strengthening their squad while weakening a rival.

The question now is whether Leverkusen can hold on to their star players or if Bayern will succeed in their recruitment drive. One thing is certain: the Bundesliga’s loss will be Bayern’s gain.
