Bayer Leverkusen eliminated Borussia Dortmund from the German Cup Round of 16, securing their spot in the quarterfinals alongside other prominent clubs. The high-profile matchup concluded with a 1-0 victory for Leverkusen.

The win sees Leverkusen advance in the competition. Borussia Dortmund, a past winner of the cup in the 2020-21 season, was knocked out. Portuguese forward Fábio Silva started for Dortmund but was substituted in the 67th minute.
In other Round of 16 clashes, Leipzig confirmed their favoritism with a 3-1 triumph over Magdeburg. Magdeburg, who sits at the bottom of the German second division, initially took the lead.
Silas Gnaka converted a penalty for Magdeburg in the 11th minute. Leipzig responded with an equalizer from Antonio Nusa in the 19th minute. Christoph Baumgartner then scored twice, in the 29th and 34th minutes, to secure the win for Leipzig. Conrad Harder assisted Baumgartner’s first goal.
Hertha Berlin advanced comfortably by defeating Kaiserslautern 6-1 at home. Saint Pauli also progressed, beating Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-1 in an away match.
Further Round of 16 matches are scheduled for Wednesday. Stuttgart, the defending trophy holder, will face Bochum. Bayern Munich, the record 20-time cup winner who last lifted the trophy in 2020, will play Union Berlin.
